The user guide states that antivirus is applied to protected addresses only.
If mail is passing through the list-server accepted To-address (which is obviously not a protected address itself), is antivirus scan done - or not?

Antvirus and certain antiphishing scans are now applied to all mail entering our network, even if you mark the preference checkbox "Bypass All Features". However, please note a stipulation in the Terms & Conditions (also in the EULA) for users of vqME and vqNow. Beginning in 2008, this rule is being rigidly enforced due to the increased prevelence of dictionary attacks...
| Quote: | | All mail directed into our servers must be originally sent to an address registered with your account (either on your page of protected addresses or on your List-Server-Allowed list). Additionally, for vqME accounts, the addresses used by the original sender must be individually forwarded or popped to your vqME address (forwarding is much better). That is, they may not arrive as part of a "catchall", alias, or pre-forwarded address. |
This means that if you create custom addresses at will - or on a whim - you must create a corresponding mailbox at your private domain and then enter the address on your List-Server List before receiving mail. [Details]

Sorry, posting a reply to a question posted 6 months ago, stating that you enforce rules since the beginning of this year (since 9 days now) is not a proper way to deal with customers.
It was a suggestion from Vanquish to create list server addresses in this forum. It was not clear that the same time a protected address had to be created.
A reference to the 'small print' rules could have been provided 6 months ago !!!!!!
Regards, Bernie
PS: I am completely confused now by searching the forum, hitting a post dated 08/15/07: Policy: Inbound Catchall & Pre-Forwarding [Section 2: The Ground Rules] |

Hello Bernhard,
First, I apologize for overlooking your original post. I came across it during system maintenance. It did not appear on our notification system. We are looking into the cause.
Although I mentioned the catchall policy, that part of my response went far beyond your question. You asked if Vanquish scans list-serve addresses for viruses. The answer is Yes. All mail entering our network is scanned for viruses.
The "fine print" (your term for our unregistered addresses policy), is not new, but I realize that it wasn't clearly posted as a comprehensive rule set prior to mid year. And in past years, we even promoted the use of catchalls to save the time and hassle of creating separate addresses on a domain that you control...
Times have changed and our Terms & Conditions have had to adapt. In the past year, we have seen a dramatic rise in distributed dictionary attacks and also a few bad eggs who game the system by serving dozens of users from an individual, retail account. We believe that our current policy of allowing excess addresses to enter under the list-server policy is a reasonable compromise. Certainly, we will refund the balance of a subscription in the event that a user cancels due to changes or enforcement of terms.
Your P.S. indicates confusion apparently between our catchall policy page (www.vanquish.com/catchall) and my statements above. But your quote seems to match my original reply. If I have been inconsistent, please call me to discuss.
Incidentally, I may relocate parts of this thread (except the original Q&A) to a catchall page to improve search accessibility. |
