Question: asked by Mark Elhardt
Can I change my vqME User ID? (E.g. the Primary vqME Profile)
Answer
We cannot change a PRIMARY User ID (the main vqME account name), because your original User ID is embedded within digital signatures and other fields stored in the public key of your regular correspondents and even within past emails to which you may someday receive a reply. This "key" demonstrates to your friends that they already know you. Changing the User ID will cause your mail and their replies to be detected as forgeries or scams. But we can still help you...
1. The easiest way to use a different vqME mailbox name is to simply create a separate Profile under your primary vqME user ID.
This has a slight disadvantage. If you do not monitor the original user ID for mail, you may not receive some renewal notices, network maintenance notices or general announcements (typically concerning major features -- such as the one we will announce later this month).
2. If you wish, you may create an entirely new vqME account with the User ID that you want (or we can do this for you). But first, you should save your Allow/Block lists. It is easy to do. Simply paste them into a spreadsheet. The process is described here.
Finally, you must change the user login name in your email program, so that you send and retrieve mail with the new User ID.
Once you have verified that you can send and receive with with the new User ID, pleae remind us to apply your original paid status and to dekete the original account. |
