Considerations in Choosing a Confirmation Identity
Most users accept mail from unrecognized senders if they respond to a confirmation request, sometimes called a "challenge". The request identifies the sender's original message by subject, date, time, and a Confirmation Identity that can be configured by the protected recipient. Enter a name or phrase that identifies you to these unrecognized senders. It should make sense when used in this sentence: “Your email to __________________ has not yet been delivered.”
Don’t offer your full name, because the senders that you challenge are most often spammers. Likewise, avoid using your email address, because it can be harvested by spammers and lead to increased network traffic. Even senders that know your email addresses may be confused, if you forward several addresses into a single vqME profile. We recommend you use your first name, a nickname, or the name of your company. In this case, the sender will see something like this:- "The email that you sent to Northeast Appliance has not yet been delivered..."
- "The email that you sent to Boy Scout troop #15... (but not if the protected profile includes unrelated addresses)
- "The email that you sent to Brian...
NOTE:
If you do not choose a confirmation identity, your vqME profile address will be used. This is not generally a good choice, because it is either meaningless to the sender (if you are protecting other addresses), or it too fully identifies you to the sender (not desirable). |
