Question: I am switching data carriers. Does this impact my vqNow service?
[asked by Jim Oas of Bearing Service]
Answer: There are two things to check. But the switchover is trivial, quick and free!
1. Log into your vqNow Admin Control Panel. Under Domain Details, check if "Processed Mail Forwarded" shows a server name and not an IP number, you can skip this step. If it shows an IP number, you must provide us with a new one at the time of your cutover.
Note: We prefer to deliver mail to a mail server name and not an IP number for these reasons:- Mail server names don't change when you switch providers
- There is no delay of incoming mail during propagation of a new IP address
2. If your end user email programs are configured to log into vqNOW for outgoing mail, then you can skip this step. But if their email programs are configured to log into your own mail server - which relays to vqNow, then we need both your old and new SMTP server IP address. We will add this to our trusted IP list. In this way, we avoid creating an open relay for spammers. |
