Question: What are the vqME limits for email size and mail storage?

Quick Summary: Sending or receiving large files? Read this first.
  • Incoming Email Size: 20 MB [1] (or 10MB if vqME POPs incoming mail before you do).
  • Outgoing Email Size: 10 MB [1]
  • vqME Mailbox Size: 200 MB per vqME profile (up to 1GB total) [2]
  • vqME Outgoing Messages (count every addressee - not just number of messages):
    vqME-350/day [3], vqME Trial-50/day
  • vqNow Outgoing Messages: 1500/day with a cap of 3500 per 10 addresses.
  • Qty Incoming Messages (including spam): 1500/day per address
[1] Actual size is 25% smaller for attachments or email that is not plain text, due to encoding overhead.
[2] vqME accounts created before June 2006 have smaller mailboxes. Ask us for a free upgrade to the larger storage quota.
Quota for Profiles cannot be combined - even if you use only one Profile. But we offer the option to increase the quota for each Profile to 500GB.

[3] vqME offers outgoing mail as a convenience - so that you may automatically add recipients to your allow list.
Do not use our SMTP server for mailing lists or bulk mail of any kind.

Connections to our mail server
  • Outgoing/SMTP - As needed to send your mail - but limited to 350 emails per day counting every address
  • Incoming (POP or IMAP) - Please configure your email program to check for mail at intervals of 5 minutes or longer.
If you are waiting for a particular email, you may click Send/Receive between automated checks.
Online Mail Storage:
Code:
Account created   Max storage   Max storage
on or after     per profile*  all profiles

    Jun '06         200 MB         1.0 GB
    Apr '05          50 MB         250 MB
     Older           20 MB         100 MB
We will increase any account to the new higher email storage limit of 200MB per Profile if you make a request. *[What is a Profile?]

Incoming Mail
  • Largest inbound email: vqME returns messages larger than 20MB, including attached files (or 10MB for mail that we retrieve on your behalf). If you expect a larger message, read this very popular tip.
  • Held Mail: There is currently no storage limit, but we are considering the changes described below
  • Max rate of received mail (from outside addresses):
    • Forwarded to vqME: 1500 per day (including Spam)
    • POP'd by our server: 350 per day
vqME is a retail service intended for individual users with incoming mail volume that is within the scope of normal activity. Our Terms & Conditions (see Item #6) permit us to limit, terminate or transfer any account that consumes a disproportionate amount of available resources. This is a rare event. We have notified only 2 or 3 users for every 10,000 accounts. Each of them remained our customer and worked with us to resolve the problem. Typically, if the number of messages in your Held Mail divided by the number of days configured for address confirmation [shown on line 4] is less than 1000, then this will not apply to you.
  • POP from other email addresses: 350 per day and 15 emails every 30 seconds. To get mail much faster delivery and higher quota, switch from POP to Forward.
How to Delete Old Mail
  • Visit www.vqme.com (or click the red 'V'), Then click Held Mail
  • Click at the top of the Date column to sort by date received
  • Click Show All and then Select All. (UNcheck any recent messages at the top, if you have not read them).
  • At top right, click Delete. Wait for the screen to update and then click Empty Trash below the mailbox list.
Outgoing Mail:
Vanquish is an antispam and antivirus email security service. As such, our service is focused upon inbound traffic. As a courtesy to our users, we provide an outgoing SMTP server, primarily as an adjunct to the Smart Maintenance feature. That is, it automatically populates your Allow List and SmartSubject list. It also signs and bonds your mail so that it is more likely to be waived around spam filters on the servers of your recipients.

Vanquish limits the size and quantity of outgoing mail.
  • vqME Paid Account: 350 outbound messages in any 24 hour period - Each recipient counts as one email
  • vqME Trial Account: 50 outbound messages in any 24 hour period - Each recipient counts as one email [Bulk Mail policy]
  • vqNow: 1000 outbound messages per address but with a cap of 3500 outbound messages per trusted email server
  • vqSA: No limits are enforced. But this product is designed as an incoming security service, and even it can be affected by very large mailings. Typically, a vqSA security appliance can handle 1~10 million outbound emails per day depending upon the model.

  • Outgoing message size is limited to 10.5MB per email, including attachments. To send larger files, see this tip
or use the SMTP server of your ISP or email provider. In this event, don't forget to add your
contacts to your vqME Allow List.
Configure your Email Program to Clean Up
To avoid reaching your email storage limit in the future, locate your email program settings (generally, it is a menu item Tools » Accounts. Find the settings for the Incoming-POP server and uncheck the box "Leave mail on server". In some programs, this option is stated the opposite way, "Delete mail from server". In that case, the box must be checked

Capacity Limits Proposed
It's a rough world out there. Every day, hackers and spammers try to cripple our mail servers. Some wish to commandeer our equipment to relay thier spam. Others launch dictionary attacks in a futile attempt to send spam to our own users. Still others, initiate a distributed, denial-of-service attack in an attempt to prevent us from providing a service that interferes with their desire to spread spam or viruses.

Due to an alarming rise in the amount attacks, we solicit your opinion on the following proposed limits. They are intended to prevent dictionary attacks and denial-of-service attacks. We believe that they will not affect users engaged in normal activities.

If enacted, these limits would apply only to personal vqME accounts and not to companies purchasing a server appliance or using [url]vqNow[/url=http://www.vanquish.com/platforms], our virtual hosted service.
  • Email Program Send/Receive: 5 requests in one minute (but still allowing you to check mail 5 times in quick succession) and a maximum of 60 requests per hour
  • Clean mail delivered to all vqME profiles: Same limit as total mail including Held Mail/Challenged Mail shown the top of this page

Outgoing Email Limit Exceeded
You have been referred to this page because you have exeeded the total number of outgoing emails permitted each day.*

The email that referred you to this page lists the recipeint addresses that were not sent by vqME. Your mail to all other addresses was sent to their respective recipients, subject to address errors and rejections which may arrive later.

What Is My Email Limit?
  • vqME-Trial: 50 recipients per day*
  • vqME-Paid: 350 recipients per day*
  • vqNow: 1000 per user per day,* with a 3500 max per 10 addresses.
Can I Avoid This Limit?
Yes, you can! Vanquish is an inbound security service. It is not designed to support mailings to lists or groups. We include the outgoing feature as a convenience so that the addresses of your personal and business contacts are automatically added to your Allow List. But it's easy to sidestep the restrictions...

You can configure your email program to occasionally send mail through your own ISP or hosted email service, just as you did before you used Vanquish. If you send frequent mailings to multiple recipients, consider designating your ISP as the "default" account for sending with your email program. Alternatively, consider using a bulk mail service for commercial mail, such as Constant Contact.

When Can I Send Through Vanquish Again?
Sending privileges must be unblocked by our staff. Ask us here. For special circumstances, we can raise the limit for vqNow business accounts. Of course, vqME users can always send mail through their ISP or hosted email service.
* The outgoing email limit is not based on a calendar day. It is a sliding 24 window. If you do not exceed the limit (this requires you to contact us), your quota will gradually return as you move past the period in which you sent a large number of messages.

Send mail through an ISP or Email Service

Vanquish allows a reasonable quota of outgoing mail to pass through its server. If you need to send larger quantities of mail - for example, if you issue newsletters, or send to a predefined list of recipeints - you can direct mail through your own ISP or hosted email service with just 1 or 2 clicks.

In this case, your mail will not pass through the security server as it leaves your home or office. So you may wish to paste your address list into your vqME or vqNow Allow List. This ensures that your recipients can write back to you without any delay or sender confirmation.

It's easy to send through your ISP or hosted email service. Simply keep an alternate email program account for quick access whenever you send to more than a few dozen recipients. The account may already be defined within your email program. When you began using vqME or vqNow, you may have suspended the original email program account rather than reconfiguring it to send through Vanquish. In this case, you simply select it when sending to larger groups. Don't forget to make sure that the extra accounts in your email program (the one that uses your ISP or hosted email service), is set to avoid POPping mail. That is, you must uncheck the box "Include this address when receiving or synchronizing mail."
  • Ask your ISP or Email service for their SMTP and POP login information. In addition to your email password, you will need this information: User name, Incoming POP server, Outgoing SMTP server, and any special settings such as server authentication, password encryption, SSL or port numbers.

Next, check your email program to see if you already have an account with these settings. If not, create a new program account and copy the ISP settings instead off the Vanquish settings shown in these tips (The tips are presented here, because they show the steps to inspect or create email program accounts):
