How Does vqME Test Incoming Mail?
The figure below depicts the process of screening incoming messages. A more detailed version of this figure is here.
Vanquish runs on a mail server - not in your PC. It separates spam from your mail before it gets to your IN box. Mail is directed to Vanquish (via MX, Forward or POP) and then cleaned. Vanquish uses these methods to admit, delay, or delete messages. A flowchart appears beneath this list:- Sender on recipient's personal Block List --> Deleted
- Sender on recipient's personal Allow List --> Admit . . .
- Message contains embedded cash
- Message subject is NON-trivial and matches one recently sent
- Message is from a company at which recipient recently made an online purchase
- Message is from a domain at which recipient submitted an online form or entered confidential information
- Message contains the tone, jargon or subjects that recipient uses with trusted individuals
- If sender is unrecognized and fails all other tests - and if challenge feature is enabled - the sender is given an opportunity to certify their own message. He is sent a challenge. This proves that the sender:
- has used an honest email address
- is a real person and not just a machine
- has the resources to answer an individual question (spammers cannot do this)
