This article describes how to stop vqME from protecting your mail. Many users need to review only the first step.

First, let's assume that you wish to terminate your vqME subscription completely. Then we will explore how to selectively prevent Vanquish from processing mail for individual email addresses.

1. Terminate your vqME Account Completely

If you have used the optional Windows Tray Assistant (it displays a red 'V' on your task bar), uninstall the software. In addition to removing the software on your PC, the uninsall process asks two questions (place a check next to both options):
  • Do you also wish to also DELETE your account on our servers?
  • Do you wish to RESTORE your original email program settings to fetch mail directly from your ISP or email provider?
If you believe that the software is not completely removed from your computer (for example, if you see a 'V' icon anywhere on your screen), see this tip to assure removal.

If any of the following situations applies to you, then review step 2 to verify that your email is no longer processed by vqME. Alternatively, contact Vanquish and we will close your entire account.
  • You are not using Windows - or are not running the optional Tray Assistant
  • You were not offered the two uninstall options shown above
  • vqME was unable to detect and reconfigure your email software
2. Stop Diverting and Protecting Selected Addresses

—— Part A: Central Server Account
This part describes how to stop the diversion of outside email addresses to vqME.
  • Click here to view your tree of Profiles & Protected Addresses.
  • Click the Properties button to the right of an address that you no longer wish to protect
  • Click the gray tab on the right side "vqME Retrieval Details"
  • If the first bubble is selected ("I know how to forward..."), then you must ask your mail service provider to terminate mail forwarding to vqME. Most ISPs allow you to do this from their web mail area or a page within their user account settings area. Do this in a separate browser. Once you are certain that mail is no longer being forwarded into vqME, press the BACK button and DELETE the protected address. If the associated vqME profile is not associated any other protected address, you may delete it too. But first, log in to vqME with this profile and check your IN box and held mail one last time. When you delete a vqME profile, all mail associated with the profile is discarded.
  • If the second bubble is selected ("I know the following information..."), then click the BACK button and DELETE the protected address. It is not necessary to inform your ISP of any change to your mail service, because mail was not diverted to vqME. Instead, it was retrieved by vqME on your behalf.
—— Part B: Email Program Settings
Skip this part if you access mail only from your web browser at www.vqme.com. It applies
only to users who retrieve mail with software such as Outlook, Thunderbird or Eudora.

If you use PC email software, your program has been sending and retrieving mail via a vqME anti-spam server. You must now restore the send/retrieve settings for any email address that you no longer wish to protect. Some versions of the vqME Tray Assistant automatically restore these settings when you click UNinstall, but this works only if the email programs and addresses were automatically detected and modified during original installation. It is a good idea to verify these settings after you run the Uninstall process.

NOTE: If you created a separate email program account for vqME and simply "deactivated" the account that had accessed your ISP directly, you do not need to perform the steps described in this section A, below. Instead, simply reactivate your ISP mail pickup and deactivate your vqME mail pickup. For example, in Outlook Express, click Tools > Accounts > Mail Tab > Properties, and adjust the setting at the bottom box "Include this account when receiving or synchronizing". Make sure that you are doing this in pairs: Activate the email program account that interacts with servers at the email provider and deactivate the corresponding one that interracts with vqME. Do this only for the email program accounts that correspond to email addresses that you will unprotect on your vqME tree of Profiles & Protected Addresses. Skip the rest of this section and continue with Part B, below.

To verify that you have restored email software account settings that were previously used with vqME, locate the server address settings for your email program. For example, in Outlook Express, click Tools > Accounts > Mail Tab > Properties. Then click the Server tab:
  • Incoming POP3 Server...<< Type the POP3 server of your ISP or mail provider
  • Outgoing SMTP Server...<< Type the SMTP server of your ISP or mail provider
  • Account Name..............<< Your email login name (for most ISPs, this is either your
  • full email address or it is just the part before the "@" symbol)
  • Password......................<< Your ISP email password
  • Server requires/allows authentication..<< For most ISPs, UNcheck this option
  • Verify that the outgoing/SMTP server port is set to 25. It was changed to 587 when you installed vqME (With Outlook Express, this option is on the "Advanced" tab)
